Well… that was a long break.
Unplanned and not thought out – I simply cut off all communication.
I deleted my Facebook and took an extended hiatus from Twitter and my blog.
The short version was I was tired of being involved in the board game and book reading communities. I was tired of the constant conversations about inclusion and feeling little progress. Tired of how polarized I felt… even with people I generally agree with! And I started reflecting on my goals and why I started writing in the first place. I reflected on what I love about books and the stories people share around the world. I reflected on why I love board games and the people who I play games with. And here is what I came up with:
I care, above all else, about people and their humanity.
It is why I push for inclusion in all aspects of my life. And it is why I continue to be apart of my communities.
Here are my goals as I move forward:
- Better signal what I hope this community will look like, sound like, and feel like to others I meet.
- Focus on the positive things happening in our community, including progress we have made for greater inclusion.
- Share with others that I value them, for who they are.
- Listen more.
- Write about what inspires and motivates me.
- Have fun.
I will be back on Twitter shortly and back posting regularly here and other places.
Thank you everyone who interacts with me, starts engaged dialogues with me, and has support me over the past years. You add value to our community and I look forward to seeing you around, virtually or in person.
Welcome back. Breaks, self-care, and recalibration are important. I’m glad you took the time to figure out what you need.
