In it, I talk briefly about the importance of seeking out, reading, and promoting Native Hawaiian authors. The common narrative of Hawaiian is so pervasive in the United States, we must start beginning to challenge this narrative with real, authentic #OwnVoices stories. […]

No worries about not being able to participate by reading a Native Hawaiian book this month. Your support and promotion has been outstanding as I attempted to pull this together. I am super excited to see how it goes! I am looking forward to your post about Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month!

There sadly is almost nothing accessible out there. I even looked around in my region at libraries in the same network and I did not find much. Thank you so much for your support and for participating through a guest post! I can’t wait to read it and share it with everyone!

I also did a bit of research into Native Hawaiian literature and it found it more difficult than it should have been. :/
And I apologize, but I do not think I will be able to read Native Hawaiian book this month. I am a little overwhelmed with how many of my own books I have to read for review and the ones I have recently bought. But I do plan to write up a post next week to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month that will highlight books/authors to read.
Again, thanks so much for doing this. It’s really important work.

When you first put out the call for guest posts/reviews/etc I ran into the same thing with my research. In fact, there isn’t a single Native Hawaiian author whose published works are available from my public library system. It’s really disappointing.
