I have never been to book festivals but I would love to go to one at some point. It was definitely interesting meeting folks from online… mostly because I knew their voice or face through podcasts or youtube BUT no one really knew me because I write. A bit awkward at first… Board gaming conventions tend to be social however, I have noticed some interesting quirks… people who come with folks they know tend to game with those people almost exclusively. In my experience, folks are pretty open to find other players, but the “Players Wanted” signs did not come out as much as I expected.

I guess if I did not want to be that social I could bring some solo games and get into my own world… I have definitely thought about it at points during the event!

And though I’ve built online relationships over the last several months, I’d be awkward to call them friends in real life. But maybe one day this will happen! 🙂
I’ve gone to book festivals alone before and it’s usually a blast for me. But they’re not as social as board gaming conventions, so I can be as social (or not) as I want.
I’m glad you met Erin and had a great and productive chat! Keep networking and blogging consistently. That’s the recipe for success, so you’re already doing it right!
